Okay, there’s no denying it. As fun as family vacations are, traveling with kids can be something of a challenge. Growing up on the beaches of Mauritius, I’ve seen everything from desperate moms chasing after their kids- bikini tops flying astray in the pursuit- to toddlers having screaming matches with their parents, categorically refusing to get out of the water.
A word of advice? Book a hotel in Mauritius that offers a Kid’s Club. Trust me, these will go a long way into ensuring that the whole family is properly immersed in the tropical experience. Best of all, most hotels do offer joint activities for kids and parents alike.
Here are just a few of my favorite family-friendly accommodation in Mauritius:
Lux Belle Mare
One of Mauritius’ most luxurious hotels, Lux Belle Mare promises traditional Mauritian hospitality, with a huge and exquisitely landscaped garden, this resort is ideal for children since kids get to stay for free. Found in Belle Mare, on the east side of the island, Lux resort is found directly on the beach, offering glorious sunsets and sunrises every day. A short walk down the beach takes you to several exhilarating water sea activities, such as kayaking, undersea walk, parasailing and the likes.
Offering the best family villas in Mauritius, Lux Belle Mare boasts several kids-club, namely:
- PLAY: Ideal for kids aged 3 to 11, the Play club remains open until 10pm, giving parents a chance to relax and enjoy some alone time. In this club, you’ll find a splash pool, an e-zone, and even an outdoors culinary school, complete with taste tests!
- The Cake Boss: Ideal for kids with active imaginations, this club focuses on cake-making and decorating. At the end of the day, a children’s movie is projected on the big screen at 8.30pm. Parents and kids can choose from a wide assortment of pre-baked cupcakes and cakes which the children can decorate afterward.

To sum up
By all means, fly your tots over to one of the most scenic islands in the Indian Ocean: after all, Mauritius has been ranked as one of the best family-friendly destinations in the world. If you don’t want to stay in a fancy hotel, rest assured that the island does cater to various types of budgets, so be sure to browse and read as many reviews as you can before booking your hotel in Mauritius.
